Leaf Drawings

Each drawing is evaluated using a Visual Presentations Rubric

  1. External Leaf Structure: Sketch and label a leaf and stem showing leaf, petiole, blade and stipule.
  2. Internal leaf structure: Sketch and label a leaf cross section. Labels: stomata, epidermal cells, palisade cells, spongy mesophyll, chloroplasts, vein.
  3. Leaf Attachment Drawing: Sketch the following pattern of leaf attachments: alternate, opposite, whorled.
  4. Leaf Nomenclature Drawing: Get a leaf from outside. Identify the leaf then sketch the leaf. Use the Colo. Master Gardeners Leaves external arrow notes to describe the leaf and label your drawing. You will have six descriptors for the leaf (leaflet arrangement, leaf shape, leaf tip, leaf base, leaf margin, venation).
